Managing Peripheral nerve disorders in underserved regions

Abstract

Using a series of clinical case vignettes, I illustrate the lessons learned from practicing peripheral neurology in resource-limited settings. Three key principles emerge as essential for delivering effective neurological care under these challenging circumstances. First, clinicians working in underserved regions must possess a strong foundation in clinical medicine and neurological examination. Second, diagnostic and treatment protocols should be simple, practical, and readily applicable by non-specialist healthcare providers, who often shoulder the majority of patient care. Finally, innovative and context-appropriate solutions are required to overcome the limited availability of advanced medical technologies and ensure timely diagnosis and effective management.
