Abstract
This review provides an overview of lacunar syndromes, the clinical manifestations of lacunar infarction caused by cerebral small vessel disease. It discusses the historical background, epidemiology, pathophysiology, risk factors, and the five classic lacunar syndromes, together with neuroimaging characteristics on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. The article also summarizes current principles of acute management, secondary stroke prevention, and risk factor control to reduce recurrent stroke and improve long-term outcomes in patients with lacunar infarction.
