Abstract
Cognitive impairment is common after stroke with an incidence of 20% at 3-6 months after stroke. Post-stroke cognitive impairment refers to all cognitive function problems that occur after a stroke, regardless of the underlying aetiology, that can be attributed to a variety of pathophysiological processes. Post-stroke cognitive impairment is a burden for patients and caregivers, but to date there are no guidelines for its treatment as a separate category. This article updates the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and prognosis of Post-stroke cognitive impairment from the European Stroke Organisation and European Academy of Neurology joint guidelines on post-stroke cognitive impairment 2021.
