Abstract
This review provides an overview of multiple system atrophy (MSA), a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by parkinsonism, cerebellar ataxia, autonomic dysfunction, and pyramidal signs. The article discusses the history, epidemiology, pathophysiology, neuropathology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic investigations, and current diagnostic criteria for MSA. It also highlights the important role of brain magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis and differential diagnosis. Current management strategies are mainly symptomatic, combined with rehabilitation and supportive care, to improve patients' functional status and quality of life.
